Bio

Daria Troitskaia is an Italy-based photographer, born in Saint Petersburg and shaped by many years of living and working across Europe. She has studied art throughout her life and has a formal background in fine arts. Before fully dedicating herself to photography, she worked as an art director in a web design company, a background that continues to inform her strong visual and conceptual approach.

Daria’s practice is centered on movement, distance, and transformation. She is particularly known for her aerial photography created from helicopters, where she explores landscape, architecture, and large-scale events from an elevated and detached perspective. These works investigate abstraction, control, and the tension between stillness and motion.

Alongside her aerial work, Daria is developing a long-term, film-based project focused on ballet, photographing dancers backstage and during rehearsals. Shot predominantly in black-and-white film, this body of work examines discipline, vulnerability, and the moment just before transformation on stage.

Materiality plays a central role in her practice. Daria works extensively with analog photography, using film as a deliberate artistic choice to slow down the photographic process and emphasize traces of presence rather than narrative or spectacle.

Her work has been exhibited internationally, and she collaborates with Leica on selected projects. She is the recipient of several international photography awards, including the Monochrome Photography Awards, Analog Sparks Photographer of the Year, reFocus Awards, Communication Arts Photography Annual, Drone Photo Awards, and the International Photography Awards (IPA).

Daria Troitskaia has presented her work in numerous solo and group exhibitions internationally. Her solo exhibitions include The Way Up High at Leica Galerie Nürnberg (Germany) and Leica Galerie Taipei (Taiwan), as well as Vertigo at The Core Club in Milan. She is also scheduled to present a solo exhibition at Leica Gallery Nürnberg in February.

Her work has been featured in major institutional and international contexts, including Leica Gallery exhibitions in Europe and Asia, Celebration of Photography at Leica Gallery Singapore, Spectrum Miami during Art Basel Miami, and the Best of Show exhibition of the Analog Sparks Film Photography Awards in Italy.

She lives and works between Milan and Malta.
